yes my Father taught us how to fly fish for pan fish using the miss prissy… now I have taught my 2 son’s the same still using the same rods and auto reels that I grew up using..and when you get a 3 to 4lbs bass to hit the popper its the best time ever to share with your kids as it was with my Father! Keep on Poppen!!!!!!!!!
Yes I still have 2 in good condition.
The Miss Prissy was always my favorite. I still have a few of them and hoard them for special places.
I know Matt well Tony son miss him
When you see Matt tell him Don Davis from BreamBugs says “hello”.
I enjoyed rowing my father around farm ponds in Louisiana
using the Pecks Poppers, miss prissy frog and the bream bait with the white head in the 60’s.
Thank you for the great memories.
YES…I remember Accardo…the Miss Prissy and Spook were my favorites!! Would buy all the YBY or CBY #6 hook popp’n bugs that I could find!! Have used these bugs in no less than 20 other states…and have caught bass and bluegills on them in all of those locations!! It is a shame…that Accardo was no able to survive the passing of Tony Accardo.
I’m 66 and haven’t fly fished since my dad showed me how as a teen .Living in Alaska and the UP of Mich .He passed in 13 And I have all the fly fishing equip. And just started looking it all over and glad I have because I have been going down to the lake everyday (Florida) having a ball . In looking over the stuff I found a Accardo wild cat I was going to tie it on than decided not to because I will probably never see another . Mixed in with the stuff are 3 bamboo rods my dad and uncle used in the 30 sand 40s.
Thank You for letting me ramble Chuck
I would give anything to get my hands on a miss prissy accardo lure. Years ago you could buy them at Walmart. I have fond memories using that fly. It was my all time favorite!!! I have found some other manufacturers that come close to reproducing them but they fall short in my book. If I could find one, I wouldn’t use it. I would put it in a display case where it belongs. Contact me if you know where I can find one. I also loved the spook from accardo. Contact me at Toolmantodd@aol.com
I used to take a 12ft. Breambuster telescoping pole, tie 11ft. of poly line and a Miss Prissy on and use wrist action to flip the bug up under bushes where bluegills hide and where they bed in late May in Georgia and load the boat with line singers! I loved it, but I can’t find Miss Prissy’s anymore, the other’s I’ve tried don’t seem to work as well! I called it “ Bugging”
What do they look like? I may have what you are looking for. I don’t fly fish, even tho I do like it. I picked up an old tackle box from a yard sale a few years back. I’m more into big game saltwater…
Please respond…
Im new to fly fishing, but a family member of mine passed and i found about 50 accardo spooks in his tackle box still in the package, so i thought that was pretty cool!
Living in lake Charles Louisiana , tony Accardo’s flys were in most sporting goods stores. I caught most of my first fly rod fish on a #10 round dinny. We would call and talk to mister Accardo’s about our success with his lures. Also he was on an episode of outdoors and fishing with Cajun Phil Broussard showing how deadly a popper/dropper rig could be.
I rember that show and episode. I’m with you on the round dinny
Cool
Still my favorite fly fishing lure today. I use to buy them in bulk at Walmart and only have a few left. Sure wish there was a company that could have continued his line.
There is a company that has continued the line, BreamBugs.com See the Rollie Pollie made by Pultz Poppers. It is exactly like the old Round Dinney made by Accardo.
I used several of the accardo flies growing up in the 80s. I used to use the accardo dry flies to locate bream beds? An after located I would switch over to a 4 RIVERS BLACK GNAT. An catch all I wanted! It’s truly sad to see all the old tackle companies gone now! I have a few of the original accardo flies. An I would very much like to locate a few of the 4 RIVERS BLACK BLACK GNATS. IF ANYBODY OUT TJERE KNOWS WHERE I MAY CAN LOCATE SOME 4 RIVERS BLACK GNAT? PLEASE EMAIL ME AT gilfish5@gmail.com
I am 49 now I started fly fishing at about 8 years old. I have used Accardo flies from pan fish to bass. Some of the best flies I have ever used. My favorite is the round Dinny the miss prissy snd spook were a close second. But for big southern blue gills I’ll take the round dinny. When I had heard that Accardo was ending. I would stop at tackle shops all over my area I think I purchased around 500 of their flies around that time still have some left and still use them when I hit the water. Many many found memories using these and at least a couple of more until my stock is gone. May you line stay wet and your hooks sunk deep.
Wow! Nice comment Stephen Lindsey! I remember the stark white Accardo’s with the red dot. I’d buy the whole card at Walmart. Very well made with cork and a hardened porcelain like white paint. Oh did they perform on the fly rod. I’ve never found their equal anywhere: high end or low.
I’ve got an Accardo Miss Prissy still in the package . Make me an offer !

Oh do I. My grandfather and my dad and I pulled many a big Blue Gill out of Tensaw river with those Round Dinny’s. My favorite color was the Yellow/ Black and my dad was Chartreuse/ Chartreuse. Granddaddy Agerton’s was White/black. Right before the closed up shop I bought several colors in bunk from them direct. I still have plenty of them Round Dinny’s but am trying other round bug brands look for something to replace them when I do run out of Round Dinny’s. Any suggestions on bugs to look at as a replacement.
We have the Rollie Pollie made by Pultz Poppers which is a duplicate of the old Round Dinny. In fact, the cork for the Rollie Pollie is the same as the old Accardo Round Dinny.

Mr. Agerton,
The Accardo Round Dinny has been replaced by the Pultz Rollie Pollie. Send me your mailing address and I will send you some samples of the Rollie Pollie to compare with the old Round Dinny.

Tony Accardo worked at the State Times and Morning Advocate with my dad. My mom and dad made bugs for him. My mom made the flys and dad made shiners. Dad made mom a table with a vise grip to hold the bugs so she could tie them. Dad paid my sister and I two cents for each shiner we would string for him. Years later, I lived just down the street from Tony on Conrad Street in Baton Rouge. He had lived there ever since my mom and dad worked for him. My mom probably made some of these bugs in this tray. Thanks for the memories!
I’ve got a Miss Prissy in the package and will probably never open it. Classic!
Growing up in Baton Rouge, I remember going into the Spillway Sportsman, Sportsman Haven, Dudes, or Hernandez Ice house and looking at the huge selection of Acardo Bugs. On our way to the basin, we always stopped at one of these spots to load up and to make sure we had plenty Acardo Bugs. To this day, my favorite is the Pultz Bluegill Special which is a great copy of the original Acardo.
Hi I have 3 “Spook” flies and 8 “Wildcat” flies still in Original Package, never been opened. My husband and I loved to Fly Fish. I made one of my own Fly Rods. I plan to sell them in an auction in August.
This is the majority of items that I bought from Breambugs.com when I first started ordering from them. It is because they were well made and I really miss them I bought up a lot of my favorites when I knew they were no longer going to be available so hopefully I will have enough to teach my grandchildren when they get old enough to learn.
If anyone knows who owned this company, please contact me at hjaccardo8@gmail.com
The Accardo Tackle Company went out of business several years ago. I have no contact information available.
Tony Accardo of Baton Rouge La. was the owner of the company.
That would have been in the 1950s and 1960s.
That is correct, sorry they went out of business. Pultz Poppers makes the Little Fatty which is similar to the Miss Prissy and they also make the Rollie Pollie, similar to the Round Denny.
Who is manufacturing Acardo bugs now ?
I was 13 and just getting started fly fishing in 99, and bought a ton of these flies from Walmart. in 01 I caught my best bass, a hair over 5 lbs on a white Peck’s popper with the red lines on the top. (Far right at bottom in case shown) around that time I started tying my own flies, and have been ever since.
In fact, I still have a mostly untouched tub of accardo fly line dressing
I still have two containers of Accardo fly line dressing. The last one I found on Ebay. I paid $15 for a mixed bag just to get the dressing.
You are fortunate to have the original Accardo Fly Line Dressing. Use it wisely. I wish we could still get that product.
Yes and Im lookig for flyline dressing also. Any substitute’s?
The best substitute that we have found is the RIO AgentX Line Cleaner. We have it on our site under Accessories.
I once fly fished with a fellow that owned a fly shop who had tyed thousands of bugs. He threw everything he could. I put him to shame with my Miss Prissy. Absolutely the most effective bream/bass bug ever.
Tony Accardo was my wife’s great uncle. I was able to go to his shop in N. Baton Rouge with my father-in-law to purchase cards of flies and other supplies. Most of my flies are gone or decayed in my Plano tackle box, however my father-in-law had some in zip lock bags in his tackle box I had not opened it in 20 years and to my surprise they where in good shape bream guinea our go to fly
Thank you for sharing your story with us. We miss the Accardo Tackle Company. Its disappointing that they had to go out of business.
Cris Hi My name is Tracy. I am trying to find out if Mr. Accardo made his cork bodies or ordered them from somewhere.? I recently took up making poppers. I make them one at a time out of balsa but they don’t float like the old Accardo’s that I have. Plus the paint doesn’t stay on as long no matter what sealer i use. I was thinking he maybe ordered them already painted in bulk. I hope so at least. If he did I would like to find out where he got them. It would be nice to ressurect his fine poppers. I grew up fishing with them. If you read this and wish to reply my email address is tcat@cox.net
Hi,
Sorry I cannot be of much help. I doubt if Accardo made their own cork poppers but I do not know where they got them. I don’t know what sealer he used. Pultz Poppers now makes duplicates of the Miss Prissy, he calls it Little Fatty and also the Round Dinny which Pultz calls Rollie Pollie. You can find all of these on the BreamBugs web site under Pultz Poppers.
Yes, I have three still in unopened packaging.
I should have added that my three flies, unopened, have no fly names, only Accardo and address in Baton Rouge, bought around 1961.
I grew up bream fishing with Accardo popping flies. Hated to see them close. I think he got his popping bug bodies from over seas already painted with the hook in. I know people that used to tie the feathers on and were payed by peace work. They would go pick up the components and work at home. I am trying to find out where he bought the poppers in bulk?
I knew a couple people that worked there as well as Mr Tonys son Matt. They hand dippped and Painted the Corks and hand tied all the flies. I do remember the feathers were shipped in already dyed in these massive brown paper bags. It was amazing the size of the factory that existed behind and beside their residence.
I make my poppers out of cork stopper of various sizes. After a few experiments, I find that KILZ 2 sticks to the cork material as a very good primer. For the color paint I use acrylic artist paint. I put a coat of clear nail polish on to increase the life of the finish. This system holds up to water surprisingly well.
The popper with a dropper is a deadly combination all through the winter in Florida south of Orlando.

My dad worked with Tony Accardo at the State Times and Morning Advocate. Mom and dad both made bugs for him. Mom would tie flys and dad would string shiners. Even my sister and I would help dad string the shiners. Great memories!
