The new 10lb test Popper/Dropper rig is made using the same premium monofilament used in our Miskito Coast All Purpose Leaders. The Popper/Dropper rig is a 10 foot long, 10lb test. Why 10lb test? When you catch a bass and a bluegill, or two bass at one time, you will be happy it’s a 10lb test.
This knotted leader uses the popular Quick Change Snaps making it easy to quickly change flies. No more cutting and tying a new fly each time you make a change. The first Quick Change Snap is tied on the end of the leader. And about 20″ up the leader is the second Quick Change Snap. On the end you put a sinking fly. We suggest the Ligon Bream Killer hook size 6 or 8. Then, on the other Snap, put on a larger popper. We suggest the BoogleBullet as well as Rollie Pollie in hook size 4 or 6. So the popper becomes your strike indicator. Above all, don’t be surprised if you catch two fish at the same time.
BreamBugs offers two other models of the Miskito Coast Popper/Dropper Rig. There is the 6 lb test version for smaller flies and trout fly fishing and the 8 lb test for bluegill.
It is not uncommon to catch two fish on one cast. Also, having both a floating fly and a sinking fly helps determine where the fish are feeding, surface or under water.
