The smaller the number the larger the hook or the larger the number the smaller the hook. Confusing, I know, but its what it is!

I just discovered your site while searching for hard body bass bugs that resemble the ones I bought a few years ago in a fly shop while on a trip. They have been great bass producers for me and I’m down to my last one. Just can’t find them.

Thank you for your reply. The flies you use are some of our top sellers. I remember Accardo, too, its sad that they did not survive. Take a look at the Accardo REPRODUCTIONS made by Brack N Brine are about as close to the original Accardo poppers as can be made.

We fly fish for bream species, primarily bluegill. My best producer by far has been the Pultz Bluegill Special. Also use the big body spider and the Ligon Bream Killer. I grew up in Baton Rouge (the home of Acardo) and remember full walls covered with Arcardo bugs.

To learn more about fly fishing for Crappie you might consider the book, “Crappie Fly Fishing”, by Terry and Roxanne Wilson. They also make a very good Crappie fly called Crappie Bully. Another sinking fly used for Crappie is the Upside Down Bream Killer. For shad lures take a look at the Wilson’s Li’l Shad and Conrad’s Murdish Minnow Shiner, both work well during shad runs.
